Manchester City Summer Signings 2022

We’re heading into the third round of fixtures of the 2022/23 season and Manchester City have started how they hope to go on by winning their first to games of the season to nil.

A 2-0 win away to West Ham in their opening match was followed up by a 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth which has left Pep’s side at the top of the table with a trip to St James’ Park this weekend scheduled where they’ll face Eddie Howe’s recently transformed Newcastle United.

It’s been the perfect start to the Citizens campaign but with the transfer window set to close in 2 weeks, could Pep have is eye on any more talent to further improve his squad?

Manchester City Signings So Far

Pep Guardiola has brought in four new players this summer to strengthen an already very impressive squad.

Erling Haaland

Easily City’s biggest signing this summer and perhaps the most notable signing of the season across all leagues is Norwegian centre-forward Erling Haarland arriving for a fee of £54 million from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

Haarland is one of the world’s most promising young talents and he’s already proved his ability in the English top-flight by bagging two goals in his side’s opening match away to West ham.

City were able to secure the signing of Haarland by triggering his €60m release clause which was included in his contract when he signed for Dortmund.

Kalvin Phillips

Manchester City secured the signing of ex-Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips in July. The 26-year-old cost the club £45m and was Pep’s third signing of the summer.

Phillips, who has 23 caps for England, spent all of his senior career at Leeds United after progressing from the academy and signed with City on a six-year contract.

Despite featuring in only 20 games for Leeds last season due to injury, Guardiola recognised the talent in the midfielder who was named England men’s Player of the Year for 2020/21.

Sergio Gómez

21-year-old Spanish defender Sergio Gómez became City’s fourth signing in the transfer window with a £11.70 million move from Belgian club Anderlecht.

Gómez made 40 appearances for Anderlecht, scoring 6 goals in the process following spells at Borussia Dortmund, Huesca (loan) and the Barcelona academy as a youngster.

He was voted as the Belgian club’s Player of the Year last season and although he has yet to feature in a light blue shirt, he is one to watch in the future.

Ortega Moreno

Goalkeeper Ortega Moreno signed with Manchester City on a free transfer back in July after his contract with Bundesliga 2 side Arminia Bielefeld expired.

Moreno started in all but one of Arminia Bielefeld games last season and although he isn’t the big name signings we have come to expect from the current Premier League champions, many believe he is a worthy addition to the squad.

Will Manchester City Make Anymore Signings?

With a squad as talented as Manchester City’s, it’s difficult to envision many players coming in and replacing those already there. Manager Pep Guardiola has stated that the club’s business in the summer transfer window is done and so it’s unlikely that we’ll see any fresh faces arrive at the Etihad within the next two weeks.
