2023/24 Man City Premier Prospects & Latest Transfer News
With the 2023/24 season kicking off next month, Manchester City hope to continue their amazing run. Manchester City won their first treble last season, having been victorious in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. This was confirmed in their 1-0 defeat of Inter Milan in the Champions League final which took place in Istanbul in June, making them the first English football club to do so since Manchester United in the season 1998-9.
Last season was an unforgettable one for the club’s manager Pep Guardiola. Moreover, Manchester City’s owner, Sheikh Mansour, who was present to watch his team’s victory over rival Inter Milan, has been largely responsible for the success of the club since City was purchased by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008. As a result, City has won five of the last six Premier League titles, this great success and dominance highlights the impact of its foreign ownership.
Achieving the only major treble by an English club, it is safe to say that the Abu Dhabi wealth has been fundamental in enhancing Manchester City’s performance in becoming a leading club in European football.
The signing of Erling Haaland also proved crucial for the club’s success last season as he ended the season with 36 Premier League goals, shattering all previous records and was key in leading City to achieving its glorious treble.
Looking to next season, Manchester City has confirmed the signings of Croatian player Mateo Kovacic who is set to transfer from Chelsea for €29.1M. Meanwhile Joao Cancelo, Yangel Herrera, Issa Kabore, Nahuel Bastos and Yan Couto all return to City following temporary periods on loan at other European clubs.
Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez have both been rumoured to be leaving the club after playing for several years. The Algerian player Mahrez is likely to join Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ahli having already reached an agreement on his salary. However, his transfer has not yet been confirmed by City. The Club are rumoured to have also approached Barcelona winger Raphinha as a potential replacement for Mahrez.
Portuguese star Silva played a key role in the club’s success last season, including scoring in the Champions League quarter final and semi final against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. He is under contract at Manchester City until 2025 and would be a great loss to the club. Saudi football have offered him 85 million euros per season, a figure which City cannot rival, although his transfer has not been confirmed either.
The only confirmed departure so far is long-serving captain Ilkay Gundogan, who left City to join Barcelona on a free transfer.
Manchester City is ⅔ with Sky Bet to win the Premier League in the 2023/4 season while they are ⅘ with SpreadEx and Unibet and 4/6 with Paddy Power, William Hill, Betfair and Boyle Sports among others.
City are 2/1 to win the Champions League next year with Germany’s Bayern Munich second favourite in the betting at 7/1. Other English clubs Arsenal and Newcastle are 14/1 and 20/1 respectively, illustrating City’s dominance among English clubs going into next year’s championship.
Man City are 7/2 to win the FA cup with Sky Bet, Paddy Power, Betfair and Bet Victor while they are 3/1 with Bet365, William Hill and Coral.
