International football returned to the Etihad on Sunday as England started their warm up matches for Euro 2016 with a 2-1 win against Turkey. It was a comfortable if unspectacular performance, with most players giving a decent account of themselves. The brightest moments of the evening being more goals for the strike force of Kane and Vardy.
Roy Hodgson will have learned little that he didn’t already know about his squad ahead of Euro 2016, except perhaps that Jack Wilshere is not as fit as he would have hoped. From a City perspective, Joe Hart had a typically solid game and made one excellent save late on. Raheem Sterling was a disappointment. He frequently gave the ball away and lacked an end product. This was typical of Sterling’s season and he may struggle to force his way into the first team when the tournament begins.
England remain among the favourites to win Euro 2016, with most bookies currently pricing them at about 8/1. There are some good offers for Euro 2016 betting, with various enhanced odds offers around as well, plus some bookies doing money back if England lose on penalties. We all know how often this pays off, and with Harry Kane missing one yesterday it seems this is still a weak area for England.
Highlights of the match are below if you didn’t make it to the ground or see it on TV.
Euro 2016 begins on June 10th, with England’s first match against Russia taking place on the 11th.
